We all know about sponsorship in a project environment. But what’s involved when the project pertains to a 16 hand, four-legged, well groomed bay?
Catherine Neill’s story of dedication and determination was so appealing to the Changeworks team, that providing sponsorship was a ‘no brainer’. With a 30 year passion for horses, and riding since the age of 3, Catherine has demonstrated solid commitment, and achieved an impressive list of successes in the show ring – including winning the prestigious 2017 Garryowen Equestrienne Turnout at the Royal Melbourne Show. Her trusty steed is former racehorse SLM Mercedes – otherwise known as Mr Darcy. Based in the Macedon Ranges, Victoria, Catherine admired her ‘dream horse’ for some time, before purchasing him in 2016.
Interestingly, Catherine is not a professional show rider. Rather, she competes purely for the love of her horses and the sport. Although her main game involves working as an international flight attendant, Catherine spends countless hours training and preparing for showing events – each one being a costly exercise with regard to time, effort, equipment, and entry fees! Obviously her personal application and investment is paying off. Last weekend, her success continued at Werribee, at the Show Horse Council of Victoria Masters Horse of the Year 2018. Cat and Darcy teamed up to achieve Champion Rider 30 years & Over, plus Runner Up in the Gilt Edge Cup!
The show must go on, with Mr Darcy and Cat appearing in various national events throughout the coming year – next involving the Royal Canberra Show in February, followed by the Grand National Championship and Royal Sydney Show in March. However, Cat acknowledges she is not alone in her endeavour, and describes her activities as a ‘family affair’, acknowledging the support she receives from her amazingly devoted parents, siblings and friends.
Changeworks is proud to sponsor Cat throughout 2018, and wish her well with her ambitious showing program ahead. We’ll keep you posted!
